Later Thursday night, I started feeling a bit cold. Then shivery. Then, achy, and headed to bed, where I shivered uncontrollably till I texted Jacob to bring me some Nyquil. Eventually I was able to go to sleep, but by morning I knew I was in trouble. My old cellulitis leg had blown up bright red, hot as a poker and swollen. Although I could barely move my legs to walk and barely pull myself up into the van, I managed to drive the kids to school. When I got home, Paul drove me to urgent care where I was seen promptly, and without more than a cursory glance at the leg, was told to go to ER where they would be waiting for me.
So that’s what we did, and if you can believe it, there was NOBODY there. NOBODY in the waiting room at 8:30am on a Friday. Miraculous! Sure enough, they did bring me straight back and then began shuffling me about doing blood work here and ultrasounding my legs there and setting me up with an IV drip of antibiotics in yet another little alcove. Whilst all that was happening, Paul went on got himself some “lunch” which, since he starts work at 4am, he usually takes around 9:30. Told me to text him if there was any news.
I am sorry to say that there was a lot of pain. A LOT. They muffed my IV, and I cried for quite a while before somebody noticed, asked me my pain level, and upon hearing it was about 9, got me a Percocet and stopped the IV.
After that, I was home free! Not gonna lie, Percocet is extremely effective. Before long the nurse came by to tell me that my bloodwork was all great, there was no sign of sepsis in my blood, and I could go home with some oral med prescriptions. HOME without an admission! Un-Be-LIEV-able!
Now I’m just praying that these oral meds are enough to knock this puppy out of my system. And giving thanks that I am not in the hospital over the holiday weekend – yippeeeee!!
My view during a very painful part of the day…

Since coming home I had the mother-of-all Percocet naps, got up in time to drive Alyssa to a birthday party at Main Event, drove to the school to pick up Natalie after volleyball, came back home and stayed awake the whole time till going to pick up Lyssy again at 10pm, and am still awake. I took some more pain meds, but they don’t have the same level of sleepy-time side effects, so I’m pretty psyched that I’m feeling so well. I should probably go to bed though.
But before I do, here’s some cuteness – Paul was fixing something on his hiking backpack, and one of the kids thought it would be fun to stick Cookie inside it. She settled right in as if she belonged!
