Backyard Photography

You want to get out into the world and capture images and grow and improve your skills and your art. But, despite all the effort and dedication to diet and exercise, you still fight the ogre of pain on the daily. What to do? The struggle, as they say, is real.

I recently watched a video that provided some inspiration, by a photographer who captures beautiful portraits without even having a studio, and much of the time using only natural light, in what some might call “unaesthetic” locations. I began to ponder how to find similar opportunities…

Yesterday, I found my solution in the back yard – and today I found it in the front yard. Sticking close to home, I can take little breaks if I need to, and don’t need to draft anyone to drive me around in my wheelchair. My two youngest are ever so cooperative as subjects, especially provided I incentivize them with a Chiptole bowl or a box from Raisin’ Cane’s chicken.

Also, I am experimenting with some creative effects in Luminar Neo – I’m brand new to this software, so I’m having fun with the possibilities. In these shots, particularly with Ellie’s session, I was going for a sort of painterly mood.
