Friday we woke to sunlight glistening from the surface of a thin blanket of snow over the ranch, and a frigid 25°F. When I opened the cabin door it had frozen in place a bit as the rain/sleet/snow froze on the surface. Had to get out there and grab some pics before the white stuff melted! The epic billows of steam emanating from the power plant contrasted with the bright blue sky beautifully!
We had a delicious breakfast inside the cabin, warming our hands around our red Solo cups filled with oatmeal, prepared on the cook stove, and topped with real Maple Syrup.
After some quick toothbrushing we piled in the cars and headed out to the main road across muddy ranch roads. Natalie drove the truck and did a pretty good job, all things considered, only giving up the wheel after it got a bit too fish-taily for everyone’s comfort level. It was a good weekend for driving practice – Jordan, Lyss and Ellie all got a turn in Laurent’s car. So proud to see her continuing the family tradition of teaching kids to drive on the ranch roads! I would still be happy to do it, but none of them can really handle Big Red. Her car is much easier!
Some of her pics from their drive time Thursday, and target practice up at the range on Friday afternoon. I was surprised that they were able to do any shooting in that wind, which never died down throughout our time there!
