Today was both a last first day and a first first day. Jordan headed off to begin his senior year of high school this morning, and you will note that he is not wearing a Great Hearts uniform! At basically the last minute he decided he wanted to switch schools and finish high school at the nearby public school, where he has a few friends from his college ACE program and a few that have already transferred over there from Maryvale. Now, as parents, we would not have preferred for him to make this switch, but since he just turned 18 at the end of July, we said he’s official, he can change schools if he wants to. But he had to do it all himself. And so he did! Got himself downtown to the clinic to make sure he had his shots updated and got his vaccine records for himself. Went over to the school on his own and filled out his registration forms. The school still had to call me and verify a few things, but it was all on him, and he got it done. So today was both his first first day – at public school, and his last first day of high school!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I said – I wouldn’t have made that choice, but I’m very proud of him taking on the responsibility for something he wanted to do and taking care of business. Making strides into adulthood! Now he will have lots of new experiences as a student in a Very Large high school. No wearing uniforms is a welcome change, and there will be many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
