Why, pray tell, I asked? And his legendary answer was this: “I managed to run over myself with my own truck.” And that really is what happened! In an absentminded moment while exiting his vehicle after parking, he failed to remember to engage the parking brake, and by the time he reached the back of the truck it had started rolling, knocked him over, and ran over his leg below the knee. So what did he do then? Well, like any good Scotch/Irish/German fellow might be expected to do, he got up, dusted himself off, parked the truck again properly, and then walked into the office, climbed the stairs and went to his cubicle to get to work. Only after a while did he realize it was hurting worse and worse, and maybe he should get it looked at. So what did he do? Went back down those stairs and out to his truck and drove himself to the ER. You can’t possibly imagine the number of forehead slaps this story elicited from me. This, I told him, is PRECISELY the sort of situation for which ambulances were invented… but no, that would be too much bother, and no, ambulances are expensive and blahblahblah… Men. That’s all I have to say. MEN! Anyway, there were no breaks or fractures, just some nasty bruising and swelling. He’s doing better now that he is using a compression sleeve on the leg to force the softball sized pocket of fluid out of that area, and he’ll be back to normal soon I think. Even so, he went back to doing his daily walks within the first week. I’m proud of him and the way he has maintained his fitness which I know assisted in recovery from this incident.

Natalie has been doing some training for her summer job at Bank of America. One night they were to practice elevator pitches, which she immediately nailed. I love how confident she is – no matter where she ends up, I know she will succeed!

As mentioned in the Gauntlets of Doom post, I have been continuing my health quest. I’ve begun physical therapy to strengthen my back. It’s going well. My twice weekly 40 minute sessions are taxing but within my capabilities, and I am seeing some gains in stamina after 4 rounds, so that’s encouraging. I am going to get a couple of shots in my back to help with the pain, and my prayer is that those will help me progress in gaining strength even faster. And I have an EMG scheduled to check the nerve flow in my arms and hopefully discover if there is actually carpal tunnel compression going on. I really don’t want to have to do surgery, but if that is the only remedy, then – onward and upward!

Last week was a normal Sunday around the house, with what will probably be our final lunch under the lid until autumn coolness returns. It’s been such a beautiful and cool spring, I can’t complain about the heat finally arriving this week!

ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder

Bits and stuffs of goings on over the last couple of weeks…

[6,26,70,151,83,1
8,71
post-14084","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-adopted-joy-blog","category-family","category-health","category-home-life","category-injuries","category-uncategorized","tag-family","tag-health","entry","has-media"],"a3_pvc":
["GET
