For the past week, the main area of our house has been overtaken by tumult. We have been trying to figure out what holds the highest priority for our remaining tax refund, amongst all the very needed home improvement projects on the list, and we decided that getting rid of the 15 year old carpet in the bedrooms had to be first, and the worst was in the old master bedroom shared by the three girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We scheduled our favorite contractors to come in this past week and tile the girls’ bedroom, so last weekend they had to move absolutely everything out of there and into the living-room\/dining-room, so that work could begin on Monday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But then, when they came to pull out the rug, they said they planned to paint the room as well! I had to quickly come up with colors. I had not been planning this – I thought they would do the floor and then sometime, eventually when we could afford it, I’d choose paint colors. It was a delightful surprise, but colors are extremely important to me, and historically it takes me a great deal of time and pondering to be satisfied with my choices. This time I had one day to get it done, so I was a wee bit stressed. The main thing was to choose colors that would complement the Raven Onyx Polished Porcelain tile I’d chosen:<\/p>\n\n\n

Granting that black tile is a bold choice, I recognized that it would take some dramatic wall colors to pull it all together. In the end I kept it simple: Black Smoke, and Windmill Wings:<\/p>\n\n\n

When it came to Friday, they were finishing the painting and the grout, and everything was going well, until the boss came in to inspect, and discovered that even with four coats of paint on the walls, the lighter color was still showing through in some spots, and he was dissatisfied, so they had to prime over everything and paint again. I know it was my fault for choosing the colors I did, and we gave them some extra for the additional time and effort it took. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the final result is flawless!!<\/p>\n\n\n\nngg_shortcode_1_placeholder\n\n\n\n

I could NOT be more stoked. It’s dramatic and I love it so much!! Instantly my favorite room in the house – and I will now commence scheming how to get my master bedroom back from the girls!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addendum: because they weren’t able to finish until into the evening, we saved our 33rd anniversary date until Saturday. Which was fine because we’re old, and we hit Olive Garden at 5pm when there was no rush, and were able to get home and relax and get to bed early, and that’s just how we roll at 59. It was fun, tasty, and there were lots of leftovers to bring home to the kids. Wins all around! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
