Today was a runaround day. We are revving up for Natalie’s senior year, and she’s got all kinds of plans for celebrating with her friends, including some fun clothing crafts. So we were up and out the door this morning in time to get to Hobby Lobby soon after they opened, so she could pick up a sweatshirt and all the accoutrements she needed to decorate it.
On the way home, I had her call Jordan to make sure he was up and ready so that when I arrived he could come out and jump in the van to go get his hair cut. He wasn’t quite, but while I waited for him I had Ruben come out and clear out some trash that had accumulated in the seat pockets behind the front seats. When I heard him say “Oh look! I got this at the end of my Kindergarten year!” I knew it had been too long since that job had been done!
Finally home again, I needed a bit of a recovery rest, so I took that for a while.
It was also a bit of a strange day because we had no internet service all day long. Turns out, Paul, working from home early in the morning, did something that broke it, and he didn’t have time to fix it while on the job so he just packed up and went into the office, leaving us forlorn and without the beloved computers all day long.
Turns out, when you leave kids without computers, they find things to do. Ruben got out the paints and bird house that Laurent gave him for his birthday and painted it beautifully!
The other kids found some games to play on the X-box before the controllers seized up and they had to be screenless again.
Before long it was time for Paul to get home and do a quick turn around to get Ellie and Ruben over to the school for Meet the Teacher night. While they were there, I took Jordan on an excursion. The mission was to hit up the Shoe Palace for his preferred brand of Nike shoes, for which he’s been saving up all year. Well, we went to the second closest store, and they didn’t have them. So then we drove back to the closest store, and they also didn’t have them – at least in white, which he wanted, so he gave up and got the black ones. I think he’s satisfied for the moment.
Back at home I collected on my long awaited portrait session with Jordan, and boy did that turn out well! What a photogenic kid he is… I don’t know why he’s been so skittish about being in photos before this! I made up for lost time. 🙂
After Meet The Teacher night, Paul got the computers back up and running, so at least there will be one more day of screen time before school schedule hits on Wednesday. Let the good times roll! 🙂
