Father’s Day

Father’s Day

So, right off the bat, Father’s Day began on a great note since it was Trinity Sunday, and that always means they bring some excellent hymnody. We also got to know one of our new fathers, Fr. Miguel Solis, who brought us an excellent meditation on the Trinity, with a little humor thrown in as well.

Although two of our boys, Efrain and Jake, were not feeling well today and had to stay home, the rest of us trekked over the Rio and … past Tempe Lake, to grandmother’s house, to celebrate Dad. Grandma is getting back on her feet after a few days of not doing too well, and doctor’s orders were that she keep moving, so she made Paul’s favorite family heirloom dish, “Hallupches”, the closest thing being something like Halupskie (Old German Dish). The way it has been passed down in the Heidmann family is rice is slowly cooked with ham bone and juice, sauerkraut and onions, salt and pepper, adding water and stirring frequently so it never gets too thick or dried out. It would be good with sausage as well, but the family tradition is ham, and Paul loves it!

She also made a Jello, and Alyssa and Ellie mixed it up with strawberries and whipped topping for a delicious side. Paul went and picked up In-N-Out burgers and fries, and when Laurent arrived after singing her third mass of the day, she brought Ice Cream, Cookie Dough (Paul loves cookie-dough ice-cream), Mini-M&Ms, maraschino cherries, a few more sliced strawberries, and strawberry and caramel syrup for a Sundae Bar. Ugh, it was too good and very – celebratory. 😀

Pix of the day are mostly of the wider angle variety. I’ve been thinking in wide angles recently for some reason… there was lots of goofing around, playing on phones and tablets (Ruben took a picture of me while I took a picture of him), and putting together a big puzzle (Natalie was extremely focused on that task for the entire visit!). Paul helped Ma by putting a new watch band on her watch. Grandma gave Paul his “favorite” – a can of Vienna Sausages. 🙂

When we got home, I took a nap, Paul took a Father’s Day walk in 108°F, and the kids put away laundry before getting on their screens. And the sick boys are feeling better now, thanks be to God. I am eternally thankful for all our Fathers who bless us everyday with their love, service, teaching, provision, and example.
