It’s one of the worst feelings in the world – when you discover the dogs have gotten out and the panic hits!
It happened Friday afternoon, shortly before it was time to go pick up the kids from school. They saw the front gate open and made a run for it. Daisy came back in short order, but Duke took off and was out of sight.
Paul immediately when out looking – on foot, then driving the neighborhood in the truck. When the kids got home there was more searching. Laurent went out driving around in her car after dark as well. We couldn’t find him anywhere.
I sent out a Facebook request for prayers and our wonderful friends came through! On Saturday afternoon, just about 24 hours after he disappeared, we got a call from animal control that Duke had been found – not a quarter mile from our house on our street! He was a little skittish, but once they had been able to retrieve him with their long handled collar thingy, he was very docile and jumped right into the truck and made for the front seat. The officer who called had obviously fallen in love with his big puppy-dog eyes and adorable face, and was so happy to know he would soon be back with his loving family.
So thankful he was wearing his collar and name tag when he escaped – and that he had been chipped when we first got him from the shelter.
