Today was the day we celebrated Ellie’s Double Digits Birthday! She turned 10 years old yesterday, and today was our party – and I have to say, I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a party this much!
We woke to greet this Laetare Sunday and as Sundays go, it was an easy one. Everyone got ready and out the door on time and in a pretty great mood. Kids were squirrely in the pews, but that’s better than fighting so I call it a win. After mass we zipped over to pick up Ana and Jose, grabbed some drinks at the Circle K, and came on back to relax and snack while we waited for Geneva and Laurent to arrive. Ana had time to do some beautiful braids in the girls hair – a talent I do not share but wish I did. While she was doing that, I puttered around, getting food ready, and decided today would be a fun day to practice my macro photography. Instead of a photo of the whole buffet, I did macro shots of everything in the buffet. (You may be starting to understand why I thought this was such a fun party…) Geneva arrived and since it was still going to be a while before Laurent was done with her last mass, took some of the kids to Black Rock for drinks.
At last Laurent arrived and I allowed the kids to bring out the shrimp cocktail (which would have been vanquished in a flash had I let them start earlier) so everyone got some of the fancy appetizer before our croissant sandwich luncheon. Ellie got to open her presents BEFORE the cake, highly unusual – and absolutely flipped her gourd over Laurent’s gift! She already knew what she was getting from us – an MP3 player she’s been wanting for a long time. It was a grand party – even though we didn’t have any candles for the cake.
All photos today were taken with my Canon EOS R6 and Canon Macro EF 100mm F/2.8L IS USM.
