Carnero Lake

Carnero Lake

We’ve been to this lovely spot several times before, and it’s a little different every time. There are areas to explore within walking distance, for those who can walk. For me, this time, I just enjoyed what could be seen from the landing area. It was quite beautiful enough.

One thing I quickly concluded as I tried in vain to capture the ducks scattered across the lake was that 200mm is nowhere near enough reach for birding. Adding a super-telephoto to my list of dream lenses…

It was, however, enough to enjoy shots of kids throwing rocks into the lake, climbing trees, and wrestling by the waters edge.

I was especially happy to have my hubby capture a couple of shots with his phone of kids in the forest, as well as one of “Nettie in the wild with her camera” – if for nothing else than to document that I was really there, on my own two feet! He also took a couple of me and the five kiddos that came along this time. We were missing Natalie, who had a college class to take on Saturday, and Xavier, who was not feeling well and stayed home to recuperate. I hope to get another photo with the kids in a few months in the same spot for comparison…

The last few photos were views of the foliage under the rapidly changing mountain skies as we were leaving the area, and a particularly placid cow, chewing her cud right beside the road as we passed by. Lovely cow.
