Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of the Diocese of Chicago, has been elected as the 267th Pontiff of the Holy Roman Catholic Church and the first Pope from North America, taking the name Pope Leo XIV. Although seemingly well known amongst his fellow Cardinals, I found it helpful to look up some biographical information on his ministry here.
Watch the live coverage – I did as it happened, and it was very emotional for me to participate in the anticipation leading up to the announcement, and the joy and welcome and love outpouring from the hundreds of thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
