One of the advantages of having a winter birthday (at least, in this family) is that Grandpa and Grandma are always in town to help celebrate. This year, on the momentous day of Jacob’s 15th birthday, the Grands decided to take everybody ice skating, the better to pass on their Minnesota heritage. Unfortunately, Grandma assumed that the rink would be about 65°F, like those that use the fake ice, so all the kids just wore sweaters and shirt sleeves, a couple had hats, and none had gloves. This rink, however, uses the real deal, and it was C-O-L-D!!! Jacob even left the house without socks, and I didn’t notice until we’d arrived (bad mom!). He didn’t want to brave the ice anyway, so he stayed in the warmy room with me and the little boys, and I bopped in and out to get some pics, as best I could while standing at the very busy entrance to the ice. Not for the first time, and likely not the last, I pondered what sort of lens would be most useful for capturing people in motion at a distance. Whatever those sports photographers use, which doubtless would cost a king’s ransom, and therefore, fagedaboudid. But here, at any rate, are my attempts at capturing the fun.
Jacob gets to have a party with some friends this coming Saturday, and I expect there shall be cake etc. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jacob, and God bless your year of being 15 in 2015!! 🙂
