After our big snow fight, we wanted to do one more stop before heading down into Springerville for lunch. Having been to Carnero Lake just last October, you would have thought it was easy to get there again. Welp, you would have thought wrong. The roads up there, for one thing, had not yet been cleared since the snowfall. Not a big whoop for the Tacoma, but Laurent’s little C-HR was another matter. When we reached the sign for the turn off to the lake, she made it about 6 feet before giving up and backing out. The sign said it was 2 miles to the lake, so she and some kids and Rupert jumped in the back of the truck and we took off. It was a lonnnng, slow 2-miles-that-turned-out-to-be-3, and then when we reached the sign that pointed finally to go down to the lake, not even the truck could make it through that drift. So we had to give up in defeat, turn around and follow our tracks back to where she was parked. Those kids were cold when we finally made it! Along the way of course, we stopped for a few photos of the winter wonderland.
Back in Springerville we stopped at the McDonalds for a mid-afternoon repast of McFish Sandwiches and french fries (and I may have bought them their choice of ice cream or pie for dessert).
